Julie Joseph is a self taught seamstress who has been sewing professionally for the past three years. About her experience with the SRR project Julie says, “I’m extremely excited to be a part of this project because it’s so important that our local black history be shared with all races & cultures. While learning about slavery & how our ancestors were forcibly taken is necessary; I believe it’s invaluable to display and teach about the resilience & fight that our ancestors possessed to break away from that captivity. This experience only adds to the joy & pride I feel being a black woman and I hope as this and more knowledge is shared, it will spark the same notion in more people of color.”
